Let’s check out the new rules.

Two Groups

The fifteenth edition of IPL marks the entry of two new franchises, Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants. These ten teams are divided into two groups, and each team will play 14 games. A total of  74 matches will be played, including four playoff games.

Single hub

To stop the spread of Covid and ensure safety for players and support staff, the IPL Governing Council has decided to conduct the tourney in four venues of a single hub. Franchises will miss playing in their home ground and before their fans. All the 70 league matches will be conducted in Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, DY Patil Stadium and MCA International Stadium. The venues for the playoffs will be declared later.

Decision Review System

The IPL governing council has announced that the number of unsuccessful DRS reviews will be increased from 1 to 2.

Player on strike

According to the new rule, the incoming batsman will take the strike upon a catch dismissal even if the batsman crosses or not, provided if it is not the final ball of the over.

Less than 11 in the team

If any teams fail to find their playing due to Covid, the game will be rescheduled to later. If rescheduling is not possible, the team with fewer available players will be declared as losing the game.
